Once you've decided to invest in an
electric meat slicer, the next daunting
step comes along: which model and brand to buy? There are

the cutting blade size. You will find blades from 0-14 inches -
9" are really great for lightweight use, while blades of 12"
and 14" are used most of the times. They are also suitable for
heavier use.
It is the carriage size that determins
the size of the piece of meat it will fit in the machine. Most
electric meat slicers will be able to slice products 7.5 inches
to 12 inches in diameter. If you want to slice bigger pieces,
make sure you check out on the website or if buying offline,
ask the clerk to make sure that the machine you choose will be
able to handle larger pieces of meat. The angle of the carriage
is also important, as it's much easier feeding the meat through
the slicer blade if the slicer has a steeper carriage
angle.
When looking at motors, they usually
range between 1/4 to 1/2 HP. The bigger the horsepower the
faster you are able to slice your meat. If you're looking into
heavy duty machines, you can find them with fully hardneed
stainless steel blades, which offer superior precision control.
Of course, no matter which model you buy, you need to be aware
that as with any sharp blade, this machine can be a health
hazard if not used properly. You do need to read the manual
that comes with your electric meat slicer before you start to
use it.
